Mnqobi and his family had a pretty traumatic time when their home was attacked and burned to the ground and their cattle stolen. They moved to another area but Mnqobi’s parents found it difficult to get jobs. Mnqobi left home and lived on the streets with drug users and alcoholics as companions. Then one day he met two new friends. Jabulani and Donation from I Care were different. They didn’t drink and they didn’t ‘do drugs’. What they did was to take young Mnqobi under their wings. They counselled him and helped him to rebuild his life.
Today Mnqobi lives at home, has a driver’s license and, through I Care, has been enrolled at a college in Durban where he is studying travel and tourism.
