Celebrating the Opening of the Gerty Henderson Multi-Purpose Centre

On Monday, a beautiful, sunny morning, we gathered with staff, funders, service providers, and friends to celebrate the official opening of the Gerty Henderson Multi-Purpose Centre at our iCare Family Homes.

This Centre is more than just a building—it is a space for learning, growth, and community. The boys now have a place for homework, social interaction, movie nights, church gatherings, and special celebrations like Christmas dinners. The fully equipped computer room will give them the tools they need to research, study, and develop digital skills for the future.

The day was filled with gratitude and joy. We thanked our incredible funders: the Victor Daitz Foundation, who funded the main portion of the building, and Roy and Carol Bagattini, whose generous gift in memory of their beloved mother, Gerty Henderson, made this project possible. It was moving to see her legacy honoured in such a meaningful way.

The opening ceremony included heartfelt speeches, a blessing of the building, and the ribbon cutting performed by the Henderson family. Guests enjoyed tea, coffee, and cake under the bright Durban sun, while children explored and celebrated their new space.

“This Centre is a hub of hope, learning, and community,” said Gail [Surname], Marketing Manager at iCare. “It is a place where children can grow, thrive, and be inspired, and we are so grateful to everyone who made it possible.”

The Gerty Henderson Multi-Purpose Centre is now open and ready to welcome generations of children, providing a safe, vibrant, and nurturing environment for learning, play, and connection.
