A warm greeting to all our friends of I Care

It is quite hard to believe that it is the end of 2020.  In some ways this challenging year feels like it has gone on forever, and in others, one cannot believe that Christmas is right here.

This is just a short Newsletter to wish all our Friends a very Blessed Christmas and a safe, healthy and happy 2021.  We do pray that you and yours are keeping safe during these uncertain times.

From our GM

Reflecting on the year 2020 we can call it an abundantly blessed but challenging year, with a twist of course.  Covid19 has taught us many lessons and a new way of being ‘normal’ and the staff and young men, who we work with, have adapted amazingly.

We had some opportunities to replenish our tired resources, meet new partners and build a reserve for what was to be a future year of unknown, in the very true sense of the word.

Our Faith, in the Hope we have, gave us the strength to, in turn, give Hope to our beneficiaries.  The I Care Staff have been shining lights in the lives of the boys they’ve worked with and impacts are evident.

What’s New

A new venture and collaboration between Jump Youth Mission (JYM) and I Care began with our first intake being our Sakhimpilo group 6.  We assisted JYM to complete a dormitory block with showers and toilets and then furnished the room for the intake of 10 young men.  JYM’s mission is to ‘Give Hope to the Hopeless’ and is a community based organisation working with the broken and addicted.

We have joined The Seed of Hope as a partner and have moved our under 18’s rehabilitation program to their fantastic premises.  Seed of Hope is a community based organisation who work at restoring community through restored individuals, equipping them to overcome challenges and create a promising future.  We are very excited about the two houses we will be occupying from December 2020 and cannot wait for the renovations to be completed.  We have some very generous contractors assisting us to restore the houses after they had been badly vandalised in the past.

Our Projects

We continue to attribute our success to our holistic tailor-made
I Care Cycle, which provides for every aspect of the Child/Youth’s needs:
We have a long lasting, sustainable impact – solving tomorrow’s problems, not just todays

We give grateful thanks to all who made 2020 a little easier and we are so heart-filled by the generosity shown during lockdown.

Our drop in centre in Grevyville (The Hope Centre) have continued to remain vigilant with our social distancing and sanitizing, and are seeing approximately 10 boys a day, providing them with all their basic needs:  warm showers, 2 cooked meals, medical requirements, programs, and psycho-social interventions with our in-house social workers.  This is all in preparation of the boys entering our Rehabilitation Program.  We have registered more than 100 boys visit our drop in centre this year.

We currently have 23 children in our 3 I Care family homes in Lower Illovo, with their 6 house parents.  We once again salute the houseparents and children for keeping their spirits so high during this crazy year.  The boys have continued to do their best at school and have shown true resilience during these trying times.

I Care have vacated the rehabilitation premises at Kwa Makhutha and are moving to new premises at Seed of Hope in Malagazi, Amanzimtoti.  We are looking very forward to this exciting new venture and are hoping to be in our new houses in the next couple of weeks.  We have a new group of boys starting our rehab program in January.

Our older youth doing their Sakhimpilo Course at Jump Youth Mission in Buffelsdraai, have had a good year, growing from strength to strength.  Once they have completed the Sakhimpilo Course, which includes a Life Skills and a Job Preparation Course - they then complete their Skills Training Course.  Thank you to Kevin and Valerie for being such amazing mentors to these boys.

15 young men have graduated with a Certified Skills Course.  Well done Boys!! I Care are so proud of you and your achievements.

Once completed, we assist them in finding internships, and help them to get on their feet.

We are always looking for internship possibilities, so please let us know if you could be of assistance here.
