We have a potential donor to assist us with the building of a learning centre / multi-purpose building on the land next to our iCare houses in Lower Illovo.  The sale of this land went through the day before lockdown, so we are thrilled that things are happening.  We will be appealing to donors for fittings such as tiles, kitchen fittings, various building materials etc

Once again, a sincere thank you to each and everyone of you for your assistance to iCare - from monetary donations, goods and food donations, volunteering in so many different ways, with friend like yourselves, our jobs are made so much easier.

AWARENESS

The staff from iCare took to the streets last Friday and did a street awareness campaign. We concentrated on the corner of Argyle and Stamfordhill Roads, the notorious corner where women hire young children for the day and then get them to beg at the intersection. The little tots walk in between the traffic and are very difficult to see, putting their young lives at tremendous risk.We witnessed a woman arriving with a black bag full of very old and torn clothes, which the children changed into to beg – they arrived in lovely clothes! Gratefully, the “hirers" were very uncomfortable with our presence and moved the children to beg further up the road.The purpose for this campaign is to educate the public NOT to give people money (especially children) begging at the traffic lights as it only enables and prolongs their stay on the streets, which in turn often leads to more serious problems.A passing motorist, Nathan, parked his car and came and joined us!Especially at this time of the year, we have that spirit of giving, but sadly, giving to beggars perpetuates the cycle of dependency and discourages individuals from seeking long-term solutions to improve their lives. School Shoe Drive

This year we approached schools appealing for the learners pre loved school shoes.  The response was wonderful - a huge thank you to the schools and their learners for supporting this drive - every child deserves shoes on their feet - and this is going to make an enormous difference to many many underprivileged learners.
Providing essential items like shoes can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need, especially when it comes to education and well-being

Thank you for your generous donations and response to our Santa Appeal, we were overwhelmed by your kindness and support.  These gifts bring such pleasure to the children receiving them.  A big thank you to those who gave donations in lieu of the gift bags - we so appreciate you!
