OUTREACH We have been blessed enough to give children living on the streets a Christmas Party, delicious lunch and plenty of goodie bags filled with gifts and tasty nibbles.
With that being said, there are still some children out there who have not accepted the transformation, and I Care will continue to work with them for as long as it takes.
AWARENESS During this period, we find an influx of children coming in to Durban to beg on the streets. We know that this season gives us all warm and fuzzy feelings, but please can we ask you to continue abiding to our plea of not giving the children money – it only enables and prolongs their stay on the streets, as well as increasing the risk of substance abuse.
REHAB We have exciting news! I Care has started a new skills programme at our rehab centre called Sakhimpilo. It is tailored for the older boys going through our rehabilitation program, and is aimed at motivating them and giving them exposure to the various skills training that we have available for them. Once they have completed the program and chosen a skill, we then send them for training in that area. Some of these boys are repeats, so we decided to try something new so to give them more opportunities to grow, and to make something of their future.
HOUSES The I Care boys in our houses in Lower Illovo have had a good year, and the majority have produced some pleasing results at school. The house parents continue to create a loving family environment for these boys.
These boys have been blessed with Christmas parties and gifts by many very generous people. Some will go home to their families over the Christmas period, and the others will spend a fun Christmas holiday with their I Care family.
DONORS As the festive season is upon us, there is no better time to count our many blessings and once again, say a huge thank you to our generous donors and volunteers. The spirit of community and incredible generosity that we receive throughout the year from each and every donor, really puts into perspective the rich blessings that God has bestowed upon us. From large monetary donations to sandwiches being made; every bit is received with huge appreciation and without you all, we wouldn’t be able to do the work that we do. So from all of us at I Care- THANK YOU!
VOLUNTEERS We often take for granted the time and effort that people put in to I Care. The long-term volunteers we have are a part of our family and there are no words to explain how grateful we are for their devotion to our organisation and our boys. Over the past few months, we have welcomed five lovely ladies from The Netherlands and Belgium, through B More. These girls took us by storm with their eagerness to get involved and their take-charge attitudes, and we only wish that they could have stayed with us longer.
The I Care team wishes you and yours a Blessed Christmas and a happy & healthy 2018!
